One day, I woke up and realized that my book quota has been gradually decreasing for the past few years. I've stopped reading as much as I used to, even though I LOVE to read. So I decided to set a lofty goal for myself: read 250 books in 5 years. That's 50 books per year, for those of you who don't like math.

I don't expect it to be easy, and I fully expect myself to give up halfway through the first year, but I'm going to try anyway. I like goals. They make me feel good about myself. And a goal involving books is better than any other goal.

Anyway, on to the guidelines:

- I will keep track of every book I read here. I will review as many books as I feel like, but sometimes (probably most of the time) I'll just write some quick thoughts.

- Books I'm re-reading count and will be noted as such. I'll try not to include too many of them, but I do have a pretty substantial list of books I'd like to re-read.

- Unfinished books obviously do not count. I tend not to finish books I don't like, so most of the reviews on here will probably be positive.

- Graphic novels count. Individual comic books do not. Short story collections, non-fiction, and books of poetry also count. Children's books do not.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it here.

I don't intend to share this journal with anyone. It's for my own reference and kicks, but if you happen to stumble upon it somehow, here's a little info about me:

My name is Alyssa, I'm 22 years old, and I live in a cozy apartment with my boyfriend, our dog, and our five betta fish. I'm a university student majoring in Liberal Arts with concentrations in English and Information Technology. Someday, I'd like to work as a librarian, publisher/editor, IT nerd, or technical writer. Until then, I work full-time as an office monkey for a large corporation.

As far as literature goes, my favorites tend to fall under the fantasy genre, but I'll read anything and everything. Besides fantasy, I really enjoy historical fiction, general fiction, classic literature, and young adult literature.

A few of my favorite authors: Neil Gaiman, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Guy Gavriel Kay, Peter S. Beagle, Patrick Rothfuss, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Susanna Clarke, Markus Zusak, Shirley Jackson, Ray Bradbury, Michael Crichton, Diana Wynne Jones, Garth Nix, Shannon Hale, Roald Dahl, Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, Rudyard Kipling, and many more.
